*The Amir of Kuwait is one of the richest men on the planet, and not only because of his oil. The financial ability of the Kuwaiti Kingdom is widely respected by economic analysts around the world and has enabled the government to continue to function despite the loss of their country. Although he has supported many Arab causes, he is regarded as somewhat "aloof" and disliked by some Arab leaders.
During his exile in Saudi Arabia, he made a number of promises to former members of the Kuwaiti parliament about the "new" Kuwait that would emerge from the war. Reestablishment of the parliament and other democratic reforms were pledged and there will considerable pressure on the Al Sabah family to enact these reforms. Although extremely popular now, the rebuilding of Kuwait will require considerable effort, time, and sacrifice on the part of the Kuwaiti people and the monarch will have to keep a close eye on the feelings of his people while they attempt to reconstruct their country.
